I am always saying that there are cool ways to display family photos. I helped this client spruce up her random assortment of frames by hanging them dramatically down the stairs and also inter-mixing them with oversized buttons, keys, and letters. It really feels charming!

I had a client who wanted an impressive fireplace. She opened her mind to me and relyed some of the things that had impressed her in the past. After that point, she turned me loose and this is what I came up with. I designed this fireplace from scratch. Kris Payne at Columbia Closets and Trim worked to draft my ideas and actually contruct them. We are all very proud of the result.

A stunning window display can be a great way of advertising. I had a lot of fun with this window from a local business in Prosser Washington. Because they are a real estate firm, I thought the idea of a cozy outdoor living room would send the right message and be memorable.

I can’t resist doing a few more posts on this same new house I decorated, built by Universal Home Builders. The Antler wall is amazing, the dining room is charming, and today we have to visit the guest room. Once again we carried the natural and organic feel of the décor into this room. The row of twigs above the bed is my favorite touch. However, I just can’t get over the appeal of the antique desk and the old school bulletin board. All of which combine to make the guest in this room feel comfortable and peaceful.

I was excited at the prospect of working with animal antlers. When it comes to unusual decor, I say go big and deliberate, or don't go at all. I have rarely been impressed with one or two sets of antlers displayed on a wall. However, this decadent display added an incredible element of drama in this new luxury home built by Universal Home Builders.

Painting furniture is a tastefully thrifty way to create a new look. Pieces that are tired and worn out can get a new lease on life and become part of a more current trend with a fresh coat of paint. I thought I would be the first to mix the very trendy color of grey with a traditional antique. I was validated when I saw that look all over the world furniture market. It looks like it is a winner.

The world furniture market has been an incredible experience. As far as the world is concerned, grey and white are kings when it comes to the trendiest interior colors. Orange, raspberry, and greyed out pastels are what is hot in accent colors. Pair those with reclaimed wood accent furniture, and you will have the lastest from around the globe. Look for these trends to be popping in our own home sweet home of tri cities.

Something Dramatic

Something dramatic can really take an otherwise unexciting space and transform it into something unique and inspiring. The branches in this photo bring an incredible texture and make a bold statement. Branches of that size are unusual indoors. However, branches of that size painted black are one of a kind. The fact that they help to carry out the black theme in the room and contrast with the wall, also contributes to the excitement of this otherwise dull, cookie-cutter-house dining room.

Speaking of freshening up, one new dramatic element can change how a space feels and looks. It can change the way you respond emotionally to the space as well. Take for example the branches in this photo. They give an added texture to the wall, a hint of the outdoors inside, and cast really interesting shadows on the wall during the evening. Something simple and dramatic is just what the doctor ordered when redefining a space on a budget.

Here is another example of how a few inexpensive accessories can spruce up a space and give it new life. The vases on the table were literally only dollars apiece and yet in the right arrangement give hundreds of dollars worth of impact. And after a few months of winter, a shot of color might be just the thing to cheer your winter up.

Variety is another important aspect. Assuring that there is variety in height is essential. It also adds interest to assure variety in the type of things that get displayed. Mixing family photos with sculptures or flower arrangements is an example of this. In many of my displays, I like to include variety of texture as well as variety of objects, heights, and color, Just a few things to keep in mind as you mix and match some of your treasures.
